TANIOBIS PhD Prize
The TANIOBIS PhD Prize for Solid State Chemistry and Materials Research, awarded biennially, was presented to Dr. Janine Richter at this year’s GDCh Conference on Inorganic Chemistry, hosted by the Technical University of Munich. The award was led by Prof. Klaus Müller-Buschbaum, Chairman of the GDCh Division for Solid State Chemistry & Materials Research, alongside with our colleague Dr. Markus Weinmann from R&D Department, who also serves on the division’s board.
Dr. Richter was recognized for her outstanding research in the field of inorganic synthesis. Her dissertation, titled “Ionometallurgy for Low-Temperature Metal Synthesis from Metal Oxides,” completed at TU Dresden, outlines innovative methods for the sustainable extraction of metals from both primary and secondary raw materials. Her approach, which replaces traditional energy-intensive roasting processes—known for high emissions—with a process using ionic liquids to break down raw materials and electrochemically separate the metals, is both simpler and significantly more environmentally friendly. This innovative method lays the groundwork for transformative advances in the field.
We congratulate Dr. Richter on winning this year’s TANIOBIS PhD Prize and wish her continued success in her research, which she will carry forward in Canada.
